There’s Something About Paper / City of Monarchs

Rubber stamps and paper go together like a horse and carriage. Beautiful cards and scenes are enhanced or brought to life with fabulous paper flourishes and delightful design elements.

Nanci Ring’s Diva card illustrates an effective technique called paper piecing. “It’s a fun thing to do and can be an alternative to masking,” she explains.

Her Diva was stamped three times: once on beige cardstock, once on polka-dot paper, and a third time on a piece of abstract print paper. Nanci took her time fussy-cutting each stamped image, following the outline. For the multi-colored “lining” of the skirt, she cut just inside the line. Nanci, who hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, assembled her diva by gluing the three cut-outs onto a beige “base” piece.

Explaining she’s “not a diva, not at all. I’m a plain, simple girl,” she says, noting that the real “stars” of this card were the papers she worked with.
