Artist Profile / Peaceful

Cat and mice sleepily coexist in this quiet homey scene by featured artist Monica O’Reilly. This Albuquerque, New Mexico, stamper is known for incorporating papers into her scenes. Here she took selections from an all-blue, color-coordinated paper pad to create the walls and furniture. The sofa, cat, and pillows are all one stamp she stamped three times, cut out and layered. She also embossed the sleeping kitty to make it stand out from the couch. She stamped the whimsical “house” on patterned paper and layered the window interiors with a coordinating blue pattern.

The asymmetric picture frames are die cuts with stamped portraits inside. (If the mouse looks familiar, it’s because Monica stamped her with the same face as the mouse peeking out of the mouse house and added eyelashes and dimples.) The baseboard is a strip of paper; the textured carpeting is another piece of patterned paper.
